Abstract

Objective: Analyze the correlation between the diagnosis of cancer and its repercussions on the lives of patients and caregivers. The present study also aims to evaluate the access of these patients to rehabilitation services, and their impact in this scenario. Methods: A cross-sectional study performed at the Oncology Service of ABC Medical School. The research was based on the application of previously validated questionnaires to oncology patients and their companions. The work was approved by the institution's Ethics and Research Committee. Results: 238 individuals were individuals - 119 patients and their respective (119) caregivers. There was no relation between optimism and pessimism between the two groups (p> 0.05). There was a relationship between the levels of anxiety and depression of patients and caregivers (β = 0.206, r2 = 0.0395, p = 0.030). Conclusion: The conditions and changes in daily life imposed by the disease have an impact on the quality of life of caregivers and patients, with an association between levels of anxiety and depression in both groups, leading to worsening of quality of life. Faced with this scenario, it is necessary for medical and multidisciplinary teams to be able to provide emotional support, and for the health system to provide support networks with the objective of improving quality of life in its various spheres.
